The Materials of Installing Pavers

The Steps To Installing Pavers: Once seated comfortably with coffee in hand, let’s get started with our pavers installation project!

Mark the area for pavers

1. The pavers installation process starts by measuring out the area and marking where you’ll install pavers. The next step is to level ground using techniques that are depending on the natural slope of land or water flow patterns in your yard.
2. There are a few ways to mark where the pavers will be installed. You can use chalk, paint, or pencils and you’ll need one of these markers per row that you’re installing pavers in.
3. Use your shovel as a straight edge by drawing a line on the ground with it at least twice as long as the pavers that are being installed. Then, mark off where you want pavers to be installed with a chalk line or paint/pencil line and remove any excess dirt in between those lines so there’s room for each paver installation.

Prepare the Ground

1. Level ground by understanding the pitch of the land and the direction of where water flows. Next is adding Road Base II (recycled concrete) or the base of which the pavers will be added to. The depth of at least twice as deep as your pavers will be laid so that there is room for sand between each paver if you plan on using them in an outdoor application such as a walkway, patio or pool area.
2. Add some water to help level out any hard spots before compacting with the road compactor (if needed). This way, once it dries, most areas should not need additional leveling after pavers are installed because they’ll settle nicely into their final position.

Layout Pavers

1. This is when it’s time to lay out your pavers! Start from the edge and work your way in, pavers should be placed side-by-side with no more than half an inch of space. Lay pavers out so that they are all level to each other for a uniform look.
2. *Important tip: If you’re installing pavers on a slope or higher elevation without using edging material for finishing the edges off, you’ll need to stagger pavers so that there is contact with a horizontal plane. This will allow for water and other substances to drain from between pavers without causing any damage to them.*

Install Pavers in Desired Pattern

1. There are many different ways of laying pavers down! You can create shapes like diamonds, squares, hexagons, and more. The pavers should be laid out so that the seams are between pavers (not across them).
2. *Tip: If you’re using pavers in an outside area for a patio or walkway and want to add paver sealant, make sure it’s before installing pavers.*

Concrete Footer

1. Dig a trench for the footer that is at least as deep as it is wide if not already done.
2. Pour concrete along the edges and smooth over with spackle. The width and height should be roughly 4 x 5 inches.

Seal Pavers

1. 1. Spreading pavers sealant evenly over the top of pavers will help to protect them from weather, harsh conditions and other substances.
   2. *Tip: When installing pavers across a slope or ground with higher elevation without edging material for finishing off edges, you’ll need to stagger pavers so that there is contact with a horizontal plane before pavers sealant is added. This will allow for water and other substances to drain from between pavers without causing any damage.*

   Once complete allow 24-72 hours without walking or vehicular traffic before use.
